This simple, wholesome cake is made especially for chickens using natural, flock-safe ingredients. It’s soft enough to peck, lightly sweetened with fruit, and perfect for sharing as a special treat. Ideal for birthdays, milestones, or just a fun enrichment day, this recipe makes one 12 cm (5-inch) round cake that your hens can enjoy together.

INGREDIENTS for the base:
– 1½ cups (135 g) rolled oats– 1 whole medium banana– 2 large eggs– 2/3 cup (100g) frozen raspberries– 1 tbsp olive oil– 1 tsp RUN-CHICKEN VitalMix (optionally)
INGREDIENTS for the white bean paste:
– 1 cup (190 g) dry white beans– 1/3 cup (100ml) oat milk– 1 tbsp oat flour
INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat your oven to 170 degrees Celsius, or 340 Fahrenheit.
Grease or line a small cake mold.
Let your raspberries thaw completely.
Blend one cup of oats into flour and keep the rest whole for texture.
In a bowl, mix the oat flour, whole oats, mashed banana, raspberry purée, eggs, and VitalMix. The batter should be thick, but still spoonable.
Transfer it into the mold, smooth the top, and bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Let it cool completely before frosting.
For the white bean paste, soak the beans overnight.Boil them until soft, then drain and cool.
Blend the beans with oat milk until smooth. If it’s too thin, add a spoon of oat flour. You’re aiming for a thick, pipeable texture.
Trim the top of the cake for a flat finish, cover it with the bean paste, and decorate with fresh raspberries and hemp seeds. That little detail will get the chickens pecking immediately.

Once the cake has cooled completely, place it somewhere your chickens can safely gather and enjoy. Watch as curiosity turns into delighted pecking. This little cake is more than a treat, it’s enrichment, celebration, and care baked into one.
Serve in moderation, always alongside fresh water and a balanced diet, and remove any leftovers after a short while. Whether it’s a birthday, a flock milestone, or just a way to say thank you to your hens, this cake is a simple reminder that good food can also be an act of love. Feel free to send us some pictures on our e-mail my@run-chicken.com if you make it. We’d love to see your flock enjoying it!
